The passing of Paddy O’Grady, Cushalogart, Kilmeena brought great sadness to the parish and wider community and to the members of Kilmeena GAA Club.
Paddy was predeceased by his wife Mary (nee Gibbons), brother Michael Joe & sister Mary O’Shea (Chicago).
Paddy was a quiet and unassuming family man, who enjoyed the farming life, had an infectious love of Gaelic games and Kilmeena GAA. He was a caring neighbour and friend and like so many of his generation had a great faith in his religion.
During the fifties Paddy was involved in the club both as a player and as an administrator. He severed as Secretary in 1956 and again in 1959. Then after a short period of inactivity in the club, Paddy was at the forefront when in 1963 efforts were made to reform the club.
He took on the role of Chairman serving from 1963 to 1966 at a time when a steady hand was required. Paddy’s excellent leadership helped to guide and steer the club back on to its feet.
He was always a great man to patiently encourage those he met with words of wisdom and support. You
couldn’t but come away feeling better after talking with Paddy O’Grady.
Paddy was a loyal supporter of the club lotto and regularly attended the Thursday night draws where he met friends and caught up on the activities of club and community over the previous week.
He will be greatly missed around our club and community.
All at Kilmeena GAA Club would like to extend their deepest sympathies to Paddy’s family, Ann, Mary (Club Secretary), Regina, Michael and Geoffrey, his grandchildren, extended family, friends and neighbours.
