Mayo Minor A County Final 8th April 2022
Moy Davitts 1-13 Kilmeena 0-06
Kilmeena’s bid to land the club’s first County Minor Atitle failed to materialise against a much fresher Moy Davitts side on Friday evening last in Claremorris. There was huge anticipation in the Kilmeena camp after two massive victories over Ballina Stephenites(County semi final) on Monday last and Westport (West Mayo Minor final) on Friday last.
The third big game in a week seemed a bridge too far and Kilmeena looked leg weary and void of ideas all over the pitch. Moy Davitts on the other hand looked sharp and fresh and led by 8 points to 2 after twenty minutes. Kilmeena’s task was dealt two major blows before half time when first they were reduced to fourteen men and shortly after Moy Davitts found the net to lead 1-09 to 0-02 at half time.
In the second half Kilmeena battled very hard in what was an uphill struggle, but a missed penalty four shots back off the post and a number of poor wides summed up Kilmeena’s evening as a whole. Moy Davitts ran out deserving winners 1-13 to 0-06. Kilmeena will look back at this performance with regret as proved in previous matches they were capable of much better.
Kilmeena can look back on the Minor campaign of 2022 with real pride having reached the club’s first County Minor A final.
