Kilmeena U12s chalk up another fantastic win

Kilmeena 2-6 : 0-10 Tuar Mhic Éadaigh

It wasn’t a day for pretty football but Kilmeena knew what they had to do to win their second of four games in the West Mayo U12 Championship against a talented U12 Tourmakeady side. Goals win games, as they say, and indeed that’s how it turned out in the end, as Kilmeena’s goals proved the difference, winning by two points.

From the start Kilmeena’s defence smothered the Tourmakeady attack, and nicked a few scores of their own with some great counter-attacking football. By the last quarter a blanket defence strategy was employed as Tourmakeady threw everything they had in trying to overhaul the deficit. They scored several fine points but couldn’t manage a goal thanks to heroic, last-ditch defending and some incredible saves. Both teams were exhausted at the final whistle but it was the Kilmeena lads who deservedly took the points.

Everyone who was present witnessed a fine display of never-say-die football from a talented bunch of players who now top the table. Their coaches are incredibly proud of them and who knows what this bunch can achieve. Next up is a rescheduled away fixture to Louisburgh tomorrow (Monday) evening. Hopefully the momentum will continue!

Special thanks to Ollie Mulchrone for the brilliant photos. You can see more of Ollie's photos of the game here.
