A (d)rainy Day in Kilmeena!

As I’m sure the people of Clifden would confirm, the weather during this week was exceptionally bad with very intense rainfall on Tuesday night & Wednesday morning.

According to Met Eireann the rainfall accumulation between 00:30 and 8:30 at Newport Weather Station was over 35mm (Nearly an Inch and a half!).

If our main pitch was currently in use, we would have expected a lot of water logging and that it would have been unplayable for a few days and been subject to cutting up when action resumed.

Over the coming weeks we plan to complete the pitch works and believe the benefits of these works will prove worthwhile for many years to come.

There has been extensive drainage works installed under the pitch. While the final works are not completed, the benefits from a drainage viewpoint can clearly be seen in the two pictures below. The first taken at 8:39am Wednesday morning, shows vast waterlogging, while the second picture taken less than four hours later shows no remaining surface water.
