Kilmeena minors played in Division 3A league this season. It was a tough league with Eastern Gaels, Burrishoole, Swinford, Aghamore, Balla and Ballinrobe competing in it. We had to deal with several injuries to the players for the season. At times during the Summer, it was difficult to field a team as a number of lads had given up playing football or took time out. We had some very tight games with us being victorious against our neighbours Burrishoole. We had no games from April to August as the season was interrupted due to the success of our county minors in the All-Ireland Championship. August took us to the County Championship with Ballinrobe and Aghamore in our group. Our first match saw us take on Aghamore with our full team at home. We lost out narrowly to them by one point and were well beaten by Ballinrobe as we could only field 13 players due to injuries.
In the West Mayo Championship, we were drawn away to Islandeady beating them well in the quarter-final which was played in Parke. The game was played in great spirit, but unfortunately, we came out the wrong side, losing by three points. The lads put in an excellent effort for the season despite several injuries. It was a tough season for them. These lads are fantastic to work with and a credit to their parents. They have a bright future with our senior and U21 teams. Kilmenna abú!
