A presentation night to the Kilmeena under 14 girls took place on Thursday the 22nd of August in the Clew Bay Hotel. The presentation of Kilmeena tracksuits was made by Joe and Mary Madden and their family. The presentation was made to remember the 20th anniversary of their wonderful daughter Vivienne who sadly passed away at 18years old. Vivienne was an avid sportsperson and was a member of numerous sporting groups. She won numerous county and Connacht medals during her brief sporting career. The GAA played a huge role in her young life, and Vivienne won an All Ireland girls football medal with the Mayo under 14 team. She also played with the Kilmeena boys under 12 team as there was no girl’s football in Kilmeena at that time.
A large number of the under 14 girls team attended the presentation along with their families and members of Kilmeena GAA club. Darren Madden thanked everyone for coming and paid a glowing tribute to his sister Vivienne. He welcomed the large crowd to the special event and said how wonderful it was to have Nigel home from Canada, Johnathan home from Abu Dhabi, and Caroline down from Kildare. He thanked his sister Davina for organising the event and thanked his parents for instilling a love of Gaelic football in their children and their loyalty to Kilmeena GAA club. He stated that the club is an integral part of all the Madden household and they were proud to be members of such a wonderful club.
Chairperson Willie Keaveney thanked the Madden family for their incredible loyalty and support to the club over the years and thanked them for their very generous sponsorship to the Killeena Ladies GAA. He encourages the girls and the team management to continue to work hard and congratulated them on all their fantastic achievements to date.
It really was a wonderful evening for all the squad, club members and the Madden family. There is no doubt that Vivienne’s memory will always be part of this great club.
