Our battling U10s finished runner-ups to Achill in our third final of three blitzes this season. The omens weren’t good: the rain descended just before our first game, against Achill. Despite a spirited performance against a side who were looking to win the Gearóid Murphy Memorial Cup for the first time, Achill ran out deserved winners. Next up were Kiltane who, despite mounting a stiff resistance, couldn’t keep out our lads forever and in the end, we ran out comfortable winners. No pep talk was needed for our boys against our third opponents of the day, Islandeady. From the throw-in we dominated, scoring freely, and with our win we faced Achill for the second time of the day, in the final. Unfortunately we couldn’t replicate the performance of the previous game and Achill again put in a magnificent performance, ensuring a well-deserved victory and winners of this years’ blitz.
Our boys were fantastic ambassadors for the club and special mention must be made of our Player of the Tournament, Eoghan Cannon. Congratulations and thank you to Achill - popular winners and providers of the best sandwiches of any GAA club in west Mayo!
