With only a few hours notification of the change of venue, the Kilmeena U14 girls took to the field in Rice College at the earlier than expected time of 5pm on Friday evening, to take on Westport 'B' in the County U14 C league semi final. The teams met earlier in the summer in what was a very close encounter. On that occasion it was the Westport girls that emerged victorious by a single point. With much at stake this time round, it was a very determined Kilmeena team that sought retribution on Friday evening. Wet and humid conditions made the surface of the Rice College field very slippery which increased the level of difficulty of again a close encounter. Holding a narrow 2 point lead at half time the Kilmeena girls, urged on by some passionate words from management, stormed ahead at the beginning of the second half. Kilmeena went 7 points up at one stage before Westport came back at them with 2 goals and the final quarter developed into an enthralling competition. It was however to be Kilmeena's day, and when the final whistle sounded Kilmeena were 4 points ahead. The Kilmeena girls now go on to play the county final against Claremorris next Friday evening, the 7th of September, at a venue yet to be decided. Match report ; Annette Keane.
Final score: Kilmeena 3 - 7 2 - 7 Westport
