To say that Wednesday evenings encounter between Kilmeena and Ballinrobe, in the U14 girls county semi-final, was a game of two halves, would be the understatement of the year. The two sides had met previously this season, in the league, with Kilmeena being victorious on that occasion. However, it was a Ballinrobe team ready to avenge the league game that took to Kilmeena pitch in the championship semi final. With a strong wind at their backs, Ballinrobe took a decisive lead in the first half, leading by 11 points at the break. However, the Kilmeena girls were not daunted by what appeared to be an insurmountable task and, within 5 minutes of the restart, had scored three unanswered goals to bring them right back into contention. It was a close encounter for the next 10 minutes with scores from both sides but Kilmeena gained the upper hand in the final quarter of the match and eventually won by 14 points. The squad now faces a county final within the next fortnight.
